“There is no need to fear the diversity of charisms in the Church.” This is how this month’s Pope Video begins, which is created and produced by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network.

Pope Francis invites us not “to fear diversity.” Rather, he tells us, “this diversity should make us rejoice.” The diversity of charisms, of theological and liturgical traditions, is something positive. Diversity among Christians should never be a cause of division. God loves diversity, it is a sign of the Holy Spirit’s presence. For as the Pope says, “if we are guided by the Holy Spirit, abundance, variety, diversity, never cause conflict.” Let us pray that the Holy Spirit help us recognize “the gift of different charisms within the Christian communities, and to discover the richness of different ritual traditions within the Catholic Church.”
