Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered to preschool thru elementary age children on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month from September to June at the 11:00 am Mass. The children gather at the altar for a blessing and proceed to space in the Activities Center to hear scripture. At this liturgical experience, the children hear and respond to Sunday’s scripture readings. These readings are read by adult or teen facilitators.

Parish School of Religion (PSR)

The Parish School of Religion Program (PSR) is the parish’s initiative to assist parents in their primary role as educators of their children and raising them in the Catholic faith. PSR provides religious education for children in grades kindergarten through eighth grade who attend public schools. Religious education and faith formation is offered by volunteer catechists, who have been trained and certified for their ministry by the Diocese of Cleveland. Students enrolled in the second grade will be prepared to receive Reconciliation and Eucharist. PSR classes are held on Monday evenings from 7:00 pm until 8:15 pm.

Special Education Classes

The Parish School of Religion Program (PSR) provides religious education for students up to 18 years of age with mental and/or physical disabilities. The determination of the appropriate placement of the student is made after dialogue with the student’s parents. Volunteers to work with these special children need to be organized, compassionate and flexible.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC)

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Children is for children who are seven years of age or older who have not received the sacrament of Baptism, or for children who have been baptized in another Christian denomination, but have not received their First Holy Communion and have not been enrolled in a Parish School of Religion Program (PSR). This process begins in the Fall, and normally takes place on Monday evenings from 7:00 pm until 8:15 pm. The preparation process normally takes one year. After completing the RCIC process children are placed in the appropriate level in the PSR program.

Sacramental Catch-Up

This program is offered to children who were baptized Catholic and are older than second grade but have not yet celebrated First Reconciliation, First Eucharist or Confirmation. Children normally prepare for these sacraments before entering regular PSR classes. This preparation process may take 1 or 2 years depending upon the sacramental preparation needs of the student and family.

Confirmation Preparation

Monthly small group preparation sessions, arranged at a convenient time, generally follow the school calendar with Confirmation in the Spring in conjunction with one of our Cluster parishes.

Parish School of Religion (PSR) Aide

The time and talent of parents and other parishioners is always needed to make sure that PSR runs smoothly each week. There are at least three consistent needs: classroom assistant, hall monitors and office aides. Helpers with crafts, special events, and prayer checkups are needed at specific times of the year.

Parish School of Religion (PSR) Teacher

The Parish School of Religion aids parents in bringing their children into full participation in the Catholic Church. This is done primarily through sacramental preparation and weekly classes, held on Monday evenings from 7:00-8:15 pm. Volunteer catechists, who are trained and certified by the diocese, present Catholic teaching in such a way that children both understand and embrace the faith. PSR serves children in grades K-8, and there is a special needs PSR group as well.
